Scholarship Information
Choose Ohio First Scholarship Available!
This scholarship is for Ohio State University students with disabilities majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). Scholarships can be applied to the 2009 - 10 academic year. Students are eligible for a minimum of $1500 and a maximum of $4700. Students must participate in Ohio's STEM Ability Alliance activities such as Student Learning Communities, Mentoring, Faculty Advising and Internships to be eligible for these scholarships. An informational meeting concerning this opportunity will be held in July, 2009. Application materials are available at the Choose Ohio Scholarship link.
The following is information concerning scholarships that are available for students with disabilities at The Ohio State University. Scholarship applications will be available at the end of Winter Quarter. The scholarship winners will be notified by the beginning of April and recognized at the ODS Recognition Reception in April.

Scholarships for Students with Visual Impairments
The Ohio Lions Foundation Helen Keller Scholarship
The Ohio Lion's Foundation awards four $2750 scholarships to qualified students with visual impairments who are attending OSU and are Ohio residents. To apply, complete the application form, include a copy of your college transcript, and a one to two page essay. The transcript does not need to be an official transcript. The scholarship will be presented to the winner during the ODS Recognition Reception in April.

National Federation of the Blind (NFB)
NFB has scholarships available each year for students with visual impairments. For more information, contact NFB at (641)236-6688 or download an application at www.nfb.org/services/schlprg02.htm.
The Ohio State University Charles W. Medick Scholarship
To apply for the Charles W. Medick Scholarship you must have a visual disability and complete the application form. The number of scholarships and their monetary values vary each year. Include a copy of your college transcript, (an unofficial transcript is OK), and a one to two page essay. The scholarship will be presented to the winner during the ODS Recognition Reception in April.

Scholarships for Students with Mobility Impairments
The William and Francis Smith Junk Endowed Award
This annual award is to be given to a student with a physical disability who is enrolled at The Ohio State University and who lives in the Creative Living facility in Columbus, Ohio. Recipients will be determined by the University Committee for Student Financial Aid and ODS. Preference is given to a student demonstrating academic ability and with the greatest financial need. To be considered, a student must write a personal statement, which includes background, achievements, goals, and needs. The application and accompanying materials should be placed in the MAIL-IN box at either Creative Living complex. The number of scholarships and their monetary values vary each year. The scholarship will be presented to the winner during the ODS Recognition Reception in April.
Anna Sborowitz Scholarship
The Anna Sborowitz scholarship is awarded each academic year. It is awarded to undergraduate students with a mobility impairment and severe limitations in movement or use of one or more of their extremities. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and satisfactory progress in their academic pursuits. In addition, students must be full-time or part-time (7 or more credit hours) and showing substantial progress toward a degree at The Ohio State University. ODS Recognition Awards
The Celina Irby Award
Nominations are now being accepted for the Celina Irby Award. It is designed to recognize a student employee of the Office for Disability Services (ODS) who has demonstrated a positive attitude, given exemplary assistance and provided dedicated service to students with disabilities. These qualities were exhibited in Celina Irby, an ODS student employee who passed away suddenly during Spring Quarter 1997 and in whose memory this award is being given. The award will be presented at the ODS Recognition Reception in April.
The Dick Maxwell Award
Nominations are now being accepted for the Dick Maxwell Award. The award is presented to a staff or faculty member who has made an outstanding contribution to a student with a disability or to the Office for Disability Services. All full-time or part-time faculty and staff members at The Ohio State University are eligible to receive this award. Any student, faculty or staff can nominate a person or department for this award. All nominations must include a completed nomination form and a nomination statement (2 pages maximum). You may also submit your nomination statement in the form of an audiotape. The nominating statement should include specific examples of the contributions that the nominee has made.
The recipient will be presented with a special recognition award at the ODS Recognition Reception in April. The award recipient will be selected for the following kinds of contributions:
- Significantly improving or enhancing the quality of the higher educational experience in ways that make a substantial difference for a student with a disability.
- Contributing to outstanding and sustained improvement in the services provided by the Office for Disability Services, or their department in respect to students with disabilities.
The award will be presented at the ODS Recognition Reception to be held in April.
