ATTC Mission Statement
The Mission of the Ohio State University Office for Disability Services Assistive Technology Training Center is to provide students with disabilities access to an education through the use of assistive technology.
This training center, which serves as a campus resource, houses state-of-the-art technology and is a model of assistive technology for all of Ohio State's open access computer labs.
Finally, the training center will enhance the independence of students with disabilities in accessing learning and an education.
The Assistive Technology Training Center (ATTC) at ODS serves as a campus resource by:
- Providing for training/education for students with disabilities, faculty and staff in the use of specific adaptive technology.
- Providing a model of adaptive technology for OSU's open access academic computer labs, that will insure uniformity in equipment that will allow for consistent usage and broad access.
- Providing a cost-effective and timely production of print materials into alternative format (i.e., Braille, audio texts, etc).
- Enhancing self-reliant student use (for students with disabilities) that will increase technological and learning strategies that will enhance learning as well as employment/career opportunities.
- Developing collaborative opportunities with Academic Departments and external funding that will provide for adaptive technology in computer labs throughout campus. An effort will be made to influence OSU policy to set aside a percentage of funding for adaptive technology in department labs, so that OSU is in compliance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- The ATTC is a training site as well as an open computing lab for students with disabilities. Training in assistive technology and support is offered by the Office for Disability Services' Assistive Technology Specialist.
The ATTC offers:
Students:
One-on-one training, workshops, in lab consultation.
Faculty/Staff/Departments:
On-site consultation of assistive technology needs, on-site setup assistance and staff introductory training in assistive technology.
